Washington DC: With just over an hour remaining before his self-imposed deadline, US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Washington is prepared to pause military action against Iran for two weeks, signaling a potential de-escalation after days of heightened tensions.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he had agreed to a proposal relayed by Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir. The plan calls for an immediate halt to hostilities and the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
Trump said the United States would use the two-week window to push for a broader agreement with Iran, adding that Washington believes it has already achieved its primary military goals.

“We have met and exceeded all military objectives and are very far along toward a definitive agreement concerning long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East,” Trump wrote.
He also revealed that the US had received a 10-point proposal from Tehran, describing it as a viable framework for negotiations. According to Trump, most contentious issues between the two sides have already seen progress, raising hopes that a final deal could be reached within the proposed pause.

However, the ceasefire offer comes with a key condition. Trump said any suspension of US military operations would depend on Iran agreeing to the “complete, immediate, and safe” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz — a critical artery for global oil shipments.
Tehran has previously maintained that reopening the strait would only be considered as part of a comprehensive peace agreement that includes guarantees against further strikes by the United States and its allies, not as part of a temporary arrangement.
It remains unclear whether Iran will accept the proposal, leaving the situation fluid despite the apparent diplomatic opening.
