Washington, US:US President Donald Trump said on Friday that European countries had agreed to release a “massive amount” of their heavily stocked diesel reserves, with the process expected to start immediately.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Europe has just agreed to release a massive amount of their heavily stocked Diesel Oil. The process will begin immediately. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
His announcement came after EU countries discussed a French proposal to release 50 million barrels of diesel from strategic reserves. The proposal also includes another 50 million barrels of crude oil from members of the International Energy Agency.
The move follows pressure from Washington on European allies to increase fuel supplies amid disruptions and rising diesel prices.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had urged European partners to speed up existing commitments and provide additional supplies.
The Trump administration has particularly pressed France and Germany to tap their strategic diesel reserves. Trump has also said he is considering restricting US diesel exports, warning that such a move could eventually push gasoline prices higher.
European officials have raised concerns about the economic impact of a US diesel export ban, as global fuel markets continue to face supply disruptions and higher prices.
