US President Donald Trump has said any agreement between Washington and Tehran must be “great and meaningful” or there would be “no deal”, days after claiming negotiations had made major progress.

Posting on Truth Social on Monday, Trump stated, “The deal with Iran will either be a great and meaningful one, or there will be no deal.”
The remarks come as a ceasefire between the United States and Iran has remained in place since April 8, while mediators continue efforts to reach a negotiated settlement. Despite the truce, Iran has continued restricting shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while the US has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said both sides had resolved many discussion points but stressed that “this does not mean that the signing of an agreement is imminent.”
Baghaei added that current discussions are focused on ending the war that began on February 28 rather than nuclear issues. He also said Tehran has “no guarantees” the US would honour any future commitments.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would either secure a strong deal or handle the situation “another way.”
