Trump Signals Continued US Military Presence Around Iran Amid Fragile Ceasefire

Date:

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Wednesday said American military assets will remain deployed in and around Iran until a “real agreement” is fully implemented, while warning of a sharp escalation if terms are not honored.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said US ships, aircraft and military personnel — along with additional ammunition and weaponry — would stay in position to ensure what he described as the “lethal prosecution and destruction” of an already weakened adversary.

He cautioned that if the agreement is not upheld, “the shootin’ starts,” adding that any renewed military action would be “bigger, better, and stronger than anyone has ever seen before.”

The remarks come less than a day after Washington announced a two-week ceasefire with Tehran, aimed at de-escalating tensions following recent hostilities in the region.

Trump reiterated that the understanding includes a commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and to ensure that the strategic Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure — a key concern for global energy markets.

“It was agreed a long time ago … NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS,” Trump wrote, dismissing contrary claims as “fake rhetoric.”

He added that US forces are currently “loading up and resting,” signaling both preparedness and a pause in active operations, while also suggesting readiness for further action if needed.

The statement underscores the fragile nature of the ceasefire, with Washington maintaining a strong military posture even as diplomatic efforts continue.
