United States: US President Donald Trump has strongly criticised calls for tighter controls on artificial intelligence, arguing that AI needs a “strong and smart IQ” rather than additional guardrails.
Trump’s remarks came after leading AI researchers raised concerns about the rapid pace of development and urged coordinated efforts to ensure AI progresses ethically. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had also called for such coordinated measures.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump defended his administration’s approach and pointed to previous action against AI companies and their employees over conduct it considered harmful.
“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ — and we will continue to do so!”
Trump also highlighted the government’s existing authority over AI firms, saying, “We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!”
He further rejected criticism surrounding AI development and the expansion of data centres, calling it part of a broader conspiracy.
“There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China.”
Trump stressed the importance of maintaining America’s lead over China in AI and ended with a warning to those he accused of undermining his administration.
“WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so.”
