US President Donald Trump announced he will hold back-to-back phone calls with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday to negotiate a path to peace and halt what he called the ongoing “bloodbath” in Ukraine.
Trump revealed his plans through a statement on his platform, Truth Social, where he expressed alarm at the human cost of the war. “More than 5,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are dying every week,” he said, calling the violence senseless and avoidable.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described the conflict as a “bloodbath,” citing staggering casualties on both sides. “I will be speaking, by telephone, to President Vladimir Putin of Russia on Monday, at 10:00 am,” he wrote.
Trump added that following his conversation with Putin, he would hold a separate call with President Zelenskyy, and later consult with NATO leaders alongside the Ukrainian president. “Hopefully, it will be a productive day,” Trump wrote. “A ceasefire will take place, and this very violent war, a war that should have never happened, will end. God bless us all!”
Earlier, Trump said he plans to meet with Putin “as soon as we can set it up,” suggesting that his personal involvement is essential to resolving the Russia-Ukraine war.
