US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a detailed phone conversation on Monday, discussing a wide range of issues, including trade, Ukraine, Fentanyl, and agricultural products such as soybeans.
Trump described the call as “very good” and emphasized the progress made since their last meeting in South Korea three weeks ago, calling it a follow-up to their “highly successful” discussions. He highlighted that both countries have made strides in keeping agreements “current and accurate,” particularly in support of American farmers.
The conversation also focused on strengthening bilateral communication and high-level engagement. President Xi invited Trump to visit Beijing in April, an invitation that Trump accepted. In return, Trump extended a reciprocal invitation for Xi to visit the United States later this year for a state visit.
“This call was a follow up to our highly successful meeting in South Korea, three weeks ago. Since then, there has been significant progress on both sides in keeping our agreements current and accurate. Now we can set our sights on the big picture,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, stressing that the US–China relationship remains “extremely strong.”
The phone call comes after last month’s trade truce between the two economic giants, in which the United States reduced tariffs on some Chinese goods and China eased certain restrictions on rare earth exports. Earlier agreements reached in South Korea had already aimed to ease trade tensions and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
