Two Killed, Three Police Officers Injured In Minneapolis Apartment Shooting

Date:

Minneapolis: Two people were killed and the suspected gunman also died after a shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Three Minneapolis police officers were injured during the incident, including two who suffered gunshot wounds, police Sgt. Garrett Parten said at a news conference Wednesday evening.

All three officers were in stable condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while another died after being taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, Parten said. Seven patients were brought to the hospital following the shooting.

Police urged people to stay away from the area as officers responded to the scene. Authorities also warned residents to avoid the densely populated Loring Park neighborhood near the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Videos shared on social media showed police officers with rifles pointed toward an apartment tower in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the identities of the victims and suspect, were not immediately released.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said state officials were assisting local law enforcement with the response.

“Grateful to law enforcement actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in Downtown Minneapolis this afternoon,” Walz said in a social media post. “Minnesota is praying for our first responders.”

The FBI was also responding to the shooting. FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency would provide resources needed to assist local authorities.

Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth said she was praying for the victims and thanked law enforcement officers responding to what she described as a “heinous crime.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities had not immediately provided further details about what led to the shooting.
