The United Kingdom has officially designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, marking a significant shift in its policy towards Iran.
According to Sources quoted by reports, the UK government announced that the IRGC and the Islamic Movement of Companions of the Right (IMCR) will be the first organisations to be banned under the country’s new state threats powers. The government also stated that an Iran-backed group was responsible for attacks targeting Britain’s Jewish community.
The move comes as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to rise. Over the weekend and into Monday, both sides exchanged heavy missile and drone attacks across the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they targeted US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait, destroyed radar systems in Oman, and struck fuel tanks and ammunition depots at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan in response to US strikes.
The latest developments add to growing regional instability, with concerns also rising over security in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Middle East.
