The United States Embassy in India has issued a strong advisory to international students, warning that violations of American laws can have severe implications for their immigration status, including visa cancellation and deportation.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the embassy stressed that student visa holders must strictly adhere to US laws during their stay. Any arrest or legal violation, it said, could result in immediate revocation of a student visa and may also affect eligibility for future travel to the United States.
Breaking U.S. laws can have serious consequences for your student visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future U.S. visas. Follow the rules and don’t jeopardize your travel. The embassy reiterated that holding a US visa does not guarantee permanent access to the country and should not be taken for granted. “A US visa is a privilege, not a right,” the post stated, urging students to act responsibly and comply with all legal requirements to avoid jeopardising their education and travel plans.
The advisory comes amid a growing number of Indian students pursuing higher education in the United States, making adherence to local laws a critical aspect of maintaining lawful student status.
The embassy concluded its message by encouraging students to stay informed, follow regulations, and protect their opportunity to study in the US.
