US President Donald Trump on Saturday officially proclaimed July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, signed pardons for six individuals prosecuted during the previous administration, and departed for South Dakota to deliver Independence Eve remarks at Mount Rushmore.
In a presidential proclamation commemorating America’s semiquincentennial, Trump called on citizens to celebrate the nation’s founding and honour its history.
“Now, therefore, I, Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim July 4, 2026, as the 250th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration of Independence. I urge all Americans to proudly observe this day with all due ceremony to honour the glorious heritage, history, and accomplishments of our beloved Republic,” the proclamation stated.
Trump also said the nation would continue advancing innovation while strengthening its economy and global leadership.
Separately, the President announced that he had granted pardons to six individuals whom he claimed had been unfairly prosecuted during the Biden administration.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car.’ While I know this sounds ridiculous, it is nevertheless a fact… I am setting them all free, right now!”
Trump later departed for Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, where he was scheduled to deliver Independence Eve remarks as part of the nationwide celebrations marking the United States’ 250th anniversary.
