US Midterm Elections 2022: Voting Kicks Off As Voters Race To Polling Booth, Top Updates


Washington: The much-awaited election day in the US is here which is set to determine who will control and take charge of the Congress comprising the House of Representatives and the Senate.

  • According to Edison Research and Catalist report, more than 45 million pre-election ballots have already been cast across 47 states.
  • According to US Cybersecurity officials quoted by CNN, the elections have not seen any major hacking threats.
  • The report further added that voters in Mercer County, New Jersey, are having to vote manually due to a problem with the voting machines.
  • According to reports, the polls for the election have kick-started in Vermont.
  • US Midterm Elections have all 435 seats in the House of Representatives up for re-election.
  • A total of 35 Senate seats are up for election, of which one will have a term of four years as he/she will replace a retiring senate.
  • Voters across 50 states will take part in the elections.
  • In a total of 100 Senate seats, Republicans hold 50 seats, while democrats hold 48 seats with two independent seats.
  • In case of a tie, Vice President Kamala Harris, the leader of the Senate and a Democrat, casts the deciding vote.
  • In this election, a total of 39 governors, across 36 states and three territories will contest the polls.
  • In this election, voters will choose secretaries in 27 states.
