The United States Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, reaffirmed America’s support for Israel, issuing a stern warning to Iran against launching any military aggression towards the Jewish state. In a conversation with Israeli Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant, Austin emphasized that the US stands prepared to respond decisively to any direct attack from Tehran.
The Pentagon Chief discussed Israel’s recent military actions and broader security developments with Gallant, reaffirming the United States’ unwavering support for Israel’s right to self-defense. “I made it clear that the United States supports Israel’s right to defend itself,” Austin said, sharing his remarks on social media.

Austin addressed the growing tensions in the region, highlighting that both the US and Israel are committed to dismantling Hezbollah’s attack infrastructure along Israel’s northern border. This, he noted, would prevent any Hezbollah-led assaults similar to the deadly October 7-style attacks that recently rocked northern Israeli communities.
He also underscored the necessity of restoring peace and security along the Lebanon-Israel border, advocating for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict that would enable civilians to safely return to their homes.
Austin further assured that the United States is “well-postured to defend” not only its personnel but also its partners and allies across the region against any threats from Iran or Iran-backed terrorist organizations. He stated unequivocally that the U.S. is committed to preventing any actors from capitalizing on the conflict or escalating tensions further.
The Pentagon chief’s comments come in the wake of recent precision strikes by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) in Beirut on September 27, which resulted in the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. This marked a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a group backed by Iran.
Following Nasrallah’s death, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stark warning to Iran, stating that those who target Israel will face dire consequences. Netanyahu emphasized that no location in Iran or the broader West Asia region is beyond Israel’s reach.
