Ahmedabad: Rising Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi capped off a remarkable IPL 2026 campaign by dominating the season’s individual honours, winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Emerging Player of the Season, Orange Cap, Super Striker of the Season and Super Sixes of the Season awards.
The 15-year-old batter from Bihar emerged as the standout performer of the tournament, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 776 runs in 16 matches at a staggering strike rate of 237.30. His fearless batting and consistency throughout the season established him as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
Sooryavanshi also shattered several records during the tournament. With 72 sixes, he finished as the leading six-hitter of the season and became the youngest-ever Orange Cap winner in IPL history at just 15 years and 65 days of age.
The teenager narrowly missed joining an elite group of batters with multiple centuries in a single IPL season. He was dismissed in the nineties on three occasions, scoring 93 against Lucknow Super Giants, 97 in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad and 96 in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, in addition to his century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Adding another milestone to his breakthrough campaign, Sooryavanshi became the fastest batter to reach 1,000 IPL runs in terms of balls faced, achieving the feat in just 440 deliveries and surpassing West Indies power-hitter Andre Russell. He also became the second-fastest player to the milestone in terms of innings, reaching the mark in 23 innings behind former Australian opener Shaun Marsh.
“It feels good, but I feel a bit under pressure having to give the interview. I am not drinking milk nowadays,” Sooryavanshi joked after receiving the MVP award.
Speaking about his rapid rise, he added, “How to play each game, you can’t play every game the same way. If I have to stay injury-free, I have to work on my fitness. Everyone is very supportive. All senior players, support staff, everyone backs me, and it’s a good atmosphere.”
While Sooryavanshi dominated the individual awards, the IPL 2026 title went to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who successfully defended their crown with a five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the final at Ahmedabad.
RCB chased down 156 with two overs to spare, thanks to an unbeaten 75 from Virat Kohli, securing the franchise’s second IPL title and fourth overall trophy across men’s and women’s competitions.
