“We Stopped India And Pakistan From Fighting”: Trump Repeats Ceasefire Claim

Date:

During the Oval Office press conference alongside outgoing Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk, U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his claim of averting a military clash between India and Pakistan. He suggested the conflict, sparked by the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor, could have escalated into a “nuclear disaster.”

“We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting,” Trump declared, praising the “great leaders” of both nations for heeding his administration’s stance. He emphasised that the U.S. would not engage in trade with countries “shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons.”

“We talked trade and we said, ‘we can’t trade with people that are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons’,” Donald Trump said.

Trump credited his team and the cooperation of Indian and Pakistani leadership for halting hostilities, though India has disputed his ceasefire narrative.

“We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting. I believe that could have turned into a nuclear disaster,” Trump said.

Trump also boasted of broader U.S. efforts to curb global conflicts, asserting, “We can fight better than anybody. We have the greatest military and leaders in the world.” The press conference, marking Musk’s exit after a 130-day tenure, was dominated by Trump’s foreign policy claims, despite questions about Musk’s alleged drug use, per The New York Times. X posts, like @bennyjohnson’s, amplified the event’s significance.

“We are stopping others from fighting also, because ultimately, we can fight better than anybody. We have the greatest military in the world. We have the greatest leaders in the world,” the US President further claimed.
