We Will Be Able To Work With The New US President Whoever Wins The Election, Says EAM Jaishankar

Date:

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed India’s confidence in maintaining strong relations with the United States, regardless of the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election.

Speaking at the launch of Indiaspora’s Impact report in New Delhi, EAM Jaishankar emphasized that India is prepared to collaborate with the next U.S. president, whoever he or she may be.

“Generally, we don’t comment on other people’s elections because we also hope others don’t comment on us. But the American system will throw up its verdict. And, I’m not saying this just as a formality, but if you look over the last 20-odd years, maybe a little bit more for us, we have every confidence that we will be able to work with the president of the United States, whoever he or she will be,” Jaishankar stated.

Reflecting on the global situation, Jaishankar acknowledged the severe challenges the world is currently facing, including ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel, as well as the lingering impacts of COVID-19. “We are going through an exceptionally difficult period,” he remarked, adding that the next five years could be grim due to various global crises.

Jaishankar highlighted the economic struggles faced by many countries, citing difficulties in trade and foreign exchange shortages. He also underscored the disruptive impact of climate events, which are increasingly rendering entire regions dysfunctional.
