What To Expect From Trump 2.0: NewsMobile Editor-In-Chief Saurabh Shukla Analyzes

Date:

Donald Trump has emerged victorious in the 2024 U.S. presidential race, defeating incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris in a hard-fought election that saw him winning all seven key swing states. His decisive majority has granted him a return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States.

Reflecting on the outcome, NewsMobile Editor-in-Chief Saurabh Shukla remarked, “I would say that people in the U.S. have voted for a leader who could connect. You mentioned ideology several times, and how the extreme left often tries to portray a leader in a certain way, but I think they failed to see the full picture—just as they did in India when Narendra Modi came back to power, they missed it here in the U.S. when Donald Trump won.”

Shukla emphasized that Trump’s ability to connect with diverse communities, including White, African American, Latino, and Indian American voters, played a crucial role.

“I’ve spoken to several strategists from both sides, and the overwhelming view is that people across various communities—white Americans, African Americans, Indian Americans, Latinos, and even women voters—voted for Trump. What Donald Trump did strategically was position himself as the Washington outsider, contrasting with someone perceived as an insider. The Democratic Party, backed by a set of elites, seemed convinced they would secure the votes and win the election but failed to recognize the actual sentiments of the voters,” Shukla added.

Discussing the global impact of Trump’s win, Shukla suggested that “Donald Trump 2.0” will likely be distinct from his first term. “He seems to have learned from past experiences, which is why we’ve seen him making adjustments. For instance, on the abortion issue, he stated that he wouldn’t pursue a national abortion ban. He’s also distanced himself from the so-called Project 2025. Additionally, he has already spoken about fostering a strong partnership with India and shares a great rapport with Prime Minister Modi. I anticipate that leader-to-leader diplomacy will play a more effective role in addressing bilateral issues.”

NM EIC Shukla also noted the significant support Trump garnered among Indian Americans, attributing it to Trump’s focus on skilled immigrants and economic aspirations. “The fact that Donald Trump is talking about supporting skilled immigrants resonates with many Indian Americans. Despite Kamala Harris, a candidate of South Asian origin, being on the Democratic ticket, a significant number of Indian Americans voted for Trump. This is because, while the Democrats promised a pathway for immigrants, many Indians today feel they are still heavily taxed without the full benefits they hoped for.”

Shukla underscored that Trump’s election sends a clear message about the priorities of the American people, stating, “The American people have given an overwhelming mandate to Donald Trump, sending a clear message. This message underscores that what he stands for and the ideas he has promoted resonate with voters, who have democratically chosen him. It’s time to put the controversies to rest regarding concerns that he would take America to extreme positions..”
