World Cup 2023: New Zealand Defeats Afghanistan By 149 Runs


New Delhi: The New Zealand team, led by Tom Latham, maintained their winning streak at the 2023 ODI World Cup by defeating Afghanistan with a commanding 149-run victory at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.

After a clinical performance with the bat in the first inning, the Kiwis made no mistake in defending the 288-run target. Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, and Will Young’s half-centuries helped the Kiwis accumulate a formidable total on the board. 

In the second inning, the New Zealand bowlers displayed complete dominance over the Afghanistan batsmen, restricting them to just 139 runs. Mitchell Santner and Lockie Ferguson were the standout performers with the ball, each taking three wickets. Trent Boult chipped in with two wickets, while Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry both secured one wicket each.
