Madhuri Dixit to replace Sridevi in Karan Johar’s ‘Shiddat’

Janhvi Kapoor on Monday confirmed that Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit will step into the shoes of late actress Sridevi in Karan Johar’s upcoming production, reportedly titled ‘Shiddat’, to be directed by Abhishek Varman.

Sridevi was set to begin the shooting from April but her untimely demise left the entire nation shocked.

Jahnvi revealed the news through her Instagram, the 21-year-old actress shared a picture of her mother Sridevi with actress Madhuri Dixit and wrote, “Abhishek Varman’s next film was very close to mom’s heart …Dad, Khushi and I are thankful to Madhuriji for now being a part of this beautiful film…”

The film is rumoured to star Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha and Aditya Roy Kapur. The film is said to be a period drama set in 1940s. Recently, reports suggested that Karan Johar was keen on roping in Madhuri Dixit to fill in for Sridevi in ‘Shiddat’, which will now be a tribute to the late actress. Now, Janhvi’s Instagram post has confirmed that Madhuri Dixit will be playing the role Sridevi was supposed to do.

Sridevi died on February 24 in a Dubai hotel. The mortal remains of Bollywood icon were flown back to Mumbai on February 27 after Dubai authorities had determined that she had accidentally drowned in her hotel bathtub. Sridevi, who was born in a village in Tamil Nadu and started her career in Tamil films, was laid to rest on February 28. Her death sent shockwaves across India with those who knew her at a loss to explain how the star could die so suddenly.
