In a devastating air tragedy that has shaken the nation, Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey revealed he lost his family friend in the Air India Flight AI 171 crash near Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad. The flight, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner en route to London, crashed shortly after takeoff, killing several people on board, including First Officer Clive Kunder — Massey’s cousin.
Taking to Instagram Stories, the 12th Fail actor expressed his grief, writing: “My heart breaks for the families & loved ones of the ones who lost their lives in the unimaginably tragic air crash in Ahmedabad today. It pains even more to know that my uncle, Clifford Kunder, lost his son, Clive Kunder, who was the 1st officer operating on that fateful flight. May God give strength to you and your family, uncle, and all deeply affected.”
The aircraft took off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:48 PM on Thursday. Within minutes, the plane crashed at an altitude of around 625 feet, near the Civil Hospital and the Ahmedabad Horse Camp. Witnesses described the aircraft turning into a fireball upon impact, with thick smoke engulfing nearby buildings.
According to official figures, the Dreamliner was carrying 242 individuals — 230 adult passengers, 2 infants, and 10 cabin crew members along with the two pilots. Among the passengers was reportedly former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, though confirmation of his status remains pending.
The crash site has seen massive deployment of emergency response teams, including the Indian Air Force, Army personnel, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), who are working round-the-clock in search-and-rescue operations.
Clive Kunder, remembered by family and friends as a dedicated and talented pilot, had only recently begun flying international routes. His sudden demise has left his family, including his father Clifford Kunder, devastated.
