Akshay Kumar’s much-hyped return to the comedy genre with Housefull 5 is defying critical reviews and proving to be a crowd-puller at the box office. In just two days, the fifth instalment of the franchise has grossed an impressive ₹56.73 crore in India, with trade experts now predicting a ₹90 crore opening weekend haul.
Released on Friday with a unique twist—two alternate endings titled Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B—the film has grabbed the audience’s attention despite being widely panned by critics. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film opened with ₹24.35 crore on Friday and surged to ₹32.38 crore on Saturday, buoyed by strong Eid-al-Adha holiday footfalls.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted the film’s resilience against negative press, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “SMASHING SATURDAY… #Housefull5 lives up to its title, registering #Housefull shows across a majority of screens… The #EidAlAdha holiday further boosted its business. The solid growth on Saturday, coupled with a flying start on Sunday, indicates one key fact – audience approval is loud and clear…”

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Housefull 5 boasts a record-breaking ensemble cast of 19 A-list actors. Apart from lead stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, and Nargis Fakhri, the film also features Sanjay Dutt, Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Panday, Johnny Lever, and others in pivotal roles.
This performance marks Housefull 5 as the fourth-highest opening for Akshay Kumar, behind Mission Mangal (₹29.16 crore), Sooryavanshi (₹26.29 crore), and Gold (₹25.25 crore). It has also outperformed his recent releases like Sky Force (₹12.25 crore) and Kesari Chapter 2 (₹7 crore), both of which underwhelmed due to their high production costs despite decent runs.
