Carlos Alcaraz produced a masterclass of power and precision to dismantle Novak Djokovic and book his place in the US Open 2025 men’s singles final. The 22-year-old Spaniard, ranked world No. 2, outclassed the 38-year-old veteran in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 in what could prove to be their last major battle on the big stage.
Alcaraz made his intentions clear early, breaking Djokovic in the opening game and keeping control through the first set. The second set offered more resistance, with Djokovic rolling back the years in a fiercely contested exchange, but Alcaraz held his nerve in the tiebreak. By the third, the Spaniard’s relentless shot-making left Djokovic searching for answers as he raced to victory in just over two hours.
In the other semifinal, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner overcame Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, setting the stage for a final that already promises to be historic. For the first time ever, two players will meet in three consecutive Grand Slam finals within the same season.
The Alcaraz–Sinner rivalry has become the defining story of men’s tennis in 2025. The duo has shared the last eight major titles and claimed 10 of the past 13 overall. Alcaraz arrives in Sunday’s final chasing a sixth Slam and second in New York, having not dropped a set all fortnight. Since April, he boasts a staggering 44-2 record, reaching the final in his last eight events.
Sinner, meanwhile, is chasing back-to-back titles at Flushing Meadows, a feat not achieved since Roger Federer’s run from 2004 to 2008. The Italian has now contested five consecutive Grand Slam finals, underlining his consistency at the very top of the game.
Beyond the trophy, the final will also decide who sits at the summit of men’s tennis. Alcaraz currently leads their head-to-head for 2024 with six wins from seven meetings, while Sinner has been nearly untouchable against the rest of the field, compiling a 109-4 record outside of matches against the Spaniard.
