All you need to know about the Global Internet Shutdown

Date:

Internet users across the globe might experience widespread network failures due to routine maintenance over the next 48 hours.

As reported by Russia today, the global Internet users might experience network connection failures as the main domain servers and its related network infrastructure will be down for some time.

The maintenance work will be carried out by the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The routine work will include changing of the cryptographic key that helps protect the Internet’s address book or the Domain Name System (DNS). This has become necessary to tackle the rising number of cyber attacks, the ICANN mentioned.

“To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if network operators or internet service providers have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions”, CRA said in its statement. It added that the shutdown was necessary for ensuring a safe, stable and resilient DNS.
