Actor Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed that she is finally set to read J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings books after being cast in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
In an interview with Variety, Taylor-Joy shared that she grew up as a devoted Harry Potter fan and believed she could only enjoy one fantasy franchise. She said, “I’m about to read the books now, actually. So as a child, I had a misguided idea that you could only be a ‘Harry Potter’ fan or a ‘Lord of the Rings’ fan.” She added that after watching The Lord of the Rings films during the COVID period, she realised, “turns out you can love both, and you should.”
Taylor-Joy will play Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a trusted agent of King Thranduil. Expressing her excitement, she said, “It’s so fun. I mean, if my tombstone can say ‘Lethal Elf’ I feel like I did a good job on this planet. So yeah, I’m excited.”
The film will be directed by Andy Serkis, who will also return as Gollum.
