AR Rahman Announces Autobiography ‘Rahman A Renaissance’

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman is set to turn author with his upcoming autobiography, titled Rahman: A Renaissance. The book will be co-authored by writer Rupa Chakravarty, marking a new chapter in the musician’s creative journey.

 

Rahman announced the project on X, writing, “A new chapter begins. Rupa Chakravarty and I come together as co-authors for Rahman: A Renaissance.”

The announcement featured a photograph of Rahman sitting at a piano, with Chakravarty standing beside him. The 59-year-old composer said the book would provide a “closer look” at his “music, ideas, challenges, influences and creative journey” that have shaped his world. He also said, “More details will follow soon.”

Rahman started his career in cinema by working with several composers, including Ilaiyaraaja, before making his full-fledged debut as a composer with Mani Ratnam’s Roja in 1992.

Over the years, he created music for films including Bombay, Dil Se, Lagaan, Rang De Basanti and Rockstar. He has received six National Film Awards for music direction.

His international achievements include two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award for his work on Slumdog Millionaire.
