Nagoya: The Asian Games 2026 will conclude on Sunday with the closing ceremony at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, bringing an end to India’s campaign at the continental sporting event.
Double gold medallist shooter Neeru Dhanda will lead the Indian contingent as the women’s flag-bearer. The 27-year-old enjoyed a standout campaign, winning two gold medals and a silver, including gold in the trap mixed team event alongside Kynan Chenai.
She had returned to India after her third medal but travelled back to Nagoya on Saturday morning for the ceremony. The male flag-bearer is yet to be announced.
India finished fourth in the medal standings with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The tally was 21 medals and seven golds fewer than the 106-medal haul at the previous edition in Hangzhou.
Athletics led India’s medal contribution with 24 medals, followed by shooting with 15 and archery with nine. India also secured memorable gold medals in hockey and cricket.
The closing ceremony will begin at 6 pm local time, or 2:30 pm IST, with live coverage available on Sony Sports Network.
The Olympic Council of Asia will formally pass the flag from Aichi-Nagoya to Doha, Qatar, host of the 2030 Asian Games.
