The wait is finally over as Marvel Studios unveiled the official trailer of Robert Downey Jr.-starrer ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on Monday evening.
The trailer showcases Marvel’s biggest heroes assembling as Doctor Doom prepares to unleash a multiverse-crossing war against them. Thor is seen facing off against Doom while also reuniting with Chris Evans’ Captain America, who makes his long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after “Avengers: Endgame.”
Several beloved characters from Fox’s “X-Men” franchise also officially cross over into the Avengers’ universe. The trailer features Professor Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Cyclops and Channing Tatum’s Gambit from “Deadpool and Wolverine,” according to Variety.
After making their big-screen appearances last year, the Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts also return to join the Avengers in their mission to save the multiverse, as per Variety.
‘Doomsday’ is scheduled to hit theatres on December 18, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ a year later.
The details surrounding Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom have not been fully explained. However, Doom is likely a variant of Iron Man from another universe. The character briefly appeared, with his face hidden, in the post-credits scene of “Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, produced by Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Jonathan Schwartz. The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.
