Mumbai: Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2 has maintained its strong box-office run through the extended Independence Day weekend, crossing the Rs 90 crore mark in India and Rs 130 crore worldwide by Day 4. The sequel has also emerged ahead of Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947 in the domestic market.
According to trade estimates, the film earned Rs 22 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs 33.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 26 crore on Sunday.
It then collected Rs 9.25 crore on Monday, taking its India net total to Rs 91 crore. Its worldwide gross stood at Rs 130.82 crore, including around Rs 21.80 crore from overseas markets.
The film, reportedly made on a Rs 45-crore budget, has already recovered its production cost and is being described as a commercial success.
Trade reports indicate it could cross the Rs 100-crore India net mark soon, while the worldwide total may move beyond Rs 150 crore.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. The film released on August 14 and has benefited from strong audience response and nostalgia for the 2007 original, which later developed a cult following.
