Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has summoned head coach Gautam Gambhir, senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar and Centre of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman for a review meeting at its Mumbai headquarters on Thursday, September 3.
The meeting will assess India’s disappointing white-ball performances in Ireland and England, player injury management and preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup, scheduled in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe from October 4 to November 21.
India suffered a 2-0 T20I series defeat in Ireland in June, ending a 16-series unbeaten run. In England, they were beaten 4-0 in the five-match T20I series after the opening game was washed out. India won the first ODI by six wickets but lost the next two to concede the series 2-1.
Fitness concerns will be a key discussion, with Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana required to prove their fitness for the Afghanistan T20Is.
Communication gaps between the CoE and selectors have also drawn scrutiny, including reports that the selection panel was not informed about Bumrah’s fitness status.
Hardik Pandya’s recovery will receive particular attention. He has not played international cricket since the 2026 T20 World Cup final and remains unable to bowl more than five or six overs in an ODI. His return is reportedly targeted for the West Indies series beginning September 27.
The BCCI will also examine IPL workload and ways to maintain a fit fast-bowling pool ahead of the New Zealand tour and 2027 World Cup.
