A 35-year-old resident of Brampton has been arrested on charges of assault with a weapon following a violent confrontation at a Hindu temple in the city, police said. The altercation took place during a protest at the Hindu Sabha Mandir on November 3.
Unverified videos shared on social media appeared to show protesters holding Khalistan-supporting banners, with the scene quickly escalating into physical violence. The footage shows individuals engaging in fistfights and striking each other with poles on the temple grounds.
Peel Regional Police responded to the scene as tensions between opposing groups grew, leading to the physical confrontations. The police issued a statement on Saturday confirming the violent nature of the demonstration. The arrested individual faces charges related to the assault with a weapon, though further details about the incident are still being investigated.
Authorities have begun investigating several crimes that occurred during the demonstration, with many of the incidents captured on video. The footage reportedly shows people using flags and sticks to attack others.
Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau and Strategic Investigation Team (SIT) have arrested and charged Inderjeet Gosal of Brampton, the Peel Police statement said.
