New Delhi: The New Delhi BRICS Declaration 2026 has underscored the role of sports in promoting social development, people-to-people exchanges and healthy, active societies, while calling for greater cooperation among member countries across traditional, indigenous, high-performance and non-Olympic sports.
The declaration welcomed the work of the BRICS Sports Working Group and the implementation of the MoU on cooperation in physical culture and sport. It also recognised the BRICS Games as a platform to celebrate the sporting diversity of member nations and encouraged greater participation of youth and students in popular, national, traditional and indigenous sports.
The BRICS Games, proposed to be held in Ahmedabad on October 12-13, 2026, will focus on showcasing and preserving traditional and indigenous sporting heritage while promoting cultural exchange and stronger people-to-people ties. Participation will be guided by principles of cultural sensitivity, mutual respect and inclusivity.
The declaration also called for greater cooperation in sports technology through the exchange of best practices, institutional experience, technical information and research. It recognised technology’s growing role in improving sporting performance, athlete welfare, governance and inclusion, while encouraging discussions on establishing a BRICS Working Group on Sports Technology.
India’s proposal for a BRICS Sports Goods Manufacturing Conclave also received broad support, with Udaipur, Rajasthan, proposed to host its inaugural edition in November 2026.
The conclave is envisaged as a platform for manufacturers, exporters, investors, technology providers, SMEs, start-ups and research institutions to exchange technologies and innovations, strengthen quality standards, boost intra-BRICS trade and develop resilient and sustainable sports manufacturing supply chains.
The declaration also welcomed dialogue on a broader BRICS Sports Cooperation Framework, which will be considered further through consultations among member states.
