BSE Sensex, Nifty 50 Rally Over 1% As Markets Close Higher

Indian benchmark indices ended Wednesday’s session on a strong note, sustaining positive momentum throughout the day amid supportive global cues.

The BSE Sensex surged 940.73 points, or 1.22 per cent, to settle at 77,958.52, while the Nifty 50 gained 298.15 points, or 1.24 per cent, to close at 24,330.95.

Among the top gainers were IndiGo, Trent Limited and Asian Paints, while Reliance Industries, HCLTech and ITC Limited ended in the red.

Global commodities saw sharp movement during the session. Brent crude oil dropped over 8 per cent to USD 101.01 per barrel, while Crude oil fell around 9 per cent. Meanwhile, Gold prices rose 3.13 per cent to USD 4,698.15, reflecting increased safe-haven demand.

Earlier in the day, markets opened higher, with the Sensex rising over 500 points and the Nifty gaining more than 180 points in early trade, tracking firm global trends.

Asian markets also traded largely in the green, led by a sharp rally in South Korea’s KOSPI index, while indices in China and Hong Kong posted moderate gains.
