During his visit, President Boric will engage in high-level talks with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on April 1, covering the full spectrum of India-Chile relations. Prime Minister Modi will also host a lunch in his honor. Additionally, he will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet to mark the occasion.
Apart from the political engagements in the capital, the Chilean leader will visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. In Mumbai and Bengaluru, he is scheduled to interact with political leaders, industry representatives, startups, and technology innovators, aiming to deepen economic and technological cooperation between the two nations.
India and Chile share historically warm and friendly relations, with Chile being an important partner in the Latin American region. Notably, Chile was the only Latin American country to send a special envoy to India’s Independence Day celebrations in 1947.
The two nations align closely on global issues, including United Nations Security Council (UNSC) reforms, climate change, renewable energy, and counterterrorism. Trade and investment also form a vital component of bilateral ties, with Chile being one of India’s key trading partners in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.
