Hollywood cinematographer George Richmond is recovering in a Chandigarh hospital after suffering serious injuries in a paragliding accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district.
Richmond, known for his work on major films including Free Guy and Deadpool & Wolverine, was injured on June 8 during a cross-country flying expedition from Bir Billing in Kangra district to the Deo Tibba region. The 54-year-old was part of a group of five when the accident occurred in a remote mountainous area near Deo Tibba.
Following alerts from fellow paragliders, local authorities and the Indian Air Force carried out a rescue operation. Richmond was evacuated from the site, taken to a safer location, and later airlifted to Kullu for initial treatment.
He was subsequently transferred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, where he underwent surgery on Thursday.
“He has been kept under observation. His vitals are stable and he is recovering,” Dr Vijay Goni said.
Doctors said Richmond suffered multiple neck injuries and will remain under observation for the next 48 hours.
