Coldplay Adds Third Mumbai Concert Amid Ticket Chaos, Fans Launch Petition Against Resellers

Date:

Coldplay’s upcoming concerts in Mumbai have sparked a frenzy among Indian fans, with tickets for all three shows in January 2025 selling out within minutes. The British band originally scheduled two concerts on January 18 and 19 at the city’s iconic DY Patil Stadium.

However, due to overwhelming demand, a third date was added for January 21. Despite this, fans have been left frustrated by technical glitches and ticket resellers charging exorbitant prices.

Tickets for the first two concerts went live at 12 noon on Sunday through BookMyShow, but just before sales began, the ticket purchase limit was halved from eight to four per person. Within minutes, all available tickets were sold out, despite many fans encountering long virtual queues and error messages preventing them from completing their purchases.

When tickets for the third show were made available, chaos ensued once again. Over 11 lakh fans rushed to join the virtual queue, but technical glitches left many unable to secure their seats. Frustration mounted as resellers quickly snapped up tickets and began offering them at prices up to 10 times their original value.

In response, Indian fans launched a petition urging Coldplay to prohibit the resale of tickets for their January 2025 concerts. The petition, titled “Urge Coldplay to Prohibit Reselling of Their January 2025 India Shows Tickets – Sign the Petition!”, accuses ticket resellers of exploiting loyal fans by reselling tickets at exorbitant markups.

“Loyal fans are left disillusioned as an overwhelming percentage of these tickets have been snapped up by resellers,” reads the petition. It calls for Coldplay to implement preventive measures against ticket reselling, allowing true fans to enjoy the concerts without being forced to pay inflated prices.

The petition also suggests that fans should be able to return unused tickets through official channels, ensuring that real Coldplay fans get a fair chance at attending the concerts. While it acknowledges that a complete ban on ticket resale may be difficult, it proposes that the band impose a cap on resale prices to limit excessive markups.

As of this article’s publication, 50 people have signed the petition, with the next goal being 100 signatures.
