Chennai: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured their maiden victory of IPL 2026, defeating Delhi Capitals by 23 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. CSK posted a commanding 212/2 in 20 overs before restricting Delhi Capitals to 189 all out.
The match belonged to Sanju Samson, who starred with an unbeaten 115 off 56 balls, marking his first century for CSK and his fourth overall in the IPL. His innings anchored CSK’s strong batting display and ended their poor run of three consecutive defeats.
After being put in to bat, CSK made a solid start with Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad putting on a 62-run opening stand. Samson then dominated proceedings, adding 113 runs for the second wicket with Ayush Mhatre, who also scored a fluent half-century before being retired out to allow Shivam Dube to finish the innings.
Delhi Capitals began steadily but lost momentum in the middle overs despite a few starts, with Tristan Stubbs being the only batter to convert his innings into a substantial score.
CSK’s bowlers, led by Jamie Overton’s standout spell, maintained control throughout, while debutant Gurjapneet Singh also impressed. The disciplined bowling effort ensured Delhi were bowled out, sealing a crucial win for CSK and lifting the team’s morale after a difficult start to the season.
