The former England football captain, David Beckham is set to be named in the King’s Birthday Honours List.
Other sporting figures who have been awarded the title include Beckham’s former manager at Manchester United, Alex Ferguson, and British tennis great Andy Murray.
According to media reports, he would take the title of “sir” and his wife, Victoria, a former member of the Spice Girls pop group, will be known as Lady Beckham.
Beckham earned 115 caps, including serving as captain of the England national team.
Beckham now co-owns Inter Miami. Started his career at Manchester United, famously scoring the goal against Greece in 2002 to secure England’s place in the World Cup. His football career spanned many top-level clubs, including Real Madrid, AC Milan, and LA Galaxy, and his reach and impact in sport have extended far beyond football.
Beckham’s position as a national icon was reaffirmed after he waited with the rest of the public to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II. He had received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 2003, but had not received another honour until now.
