Authorities in South Carolina are investigating a mass shooting that left four people dead and multiple others injured early Saturday on St. Helena Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

In a post on X, the department confirmed, “Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting that injured multiple people on St. Helena.”

Officials said that around 1 a.m. on October 12, 2025, the Beaufort County Communications Center received multiple emergency calls reporting gunfire at Willie’s Bar and Grill, located at 7 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

When deputies arrived, they encountered a large crowd and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. Hundreds of people had reportedly gathered at the bar when the shooting erupted, prompting many to flee toward nearby properties and businesses for cover.

Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported several victims to local hospitals, while others arrived on their own seeking treatment.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and at least 20 others sustained injuries. Four of the wounded were transported to hospitals in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names, pending notification of next of kin. The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office is expected to provide further details in due course.

“This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Investigators said they are working to identify persons of interest and thanked multiple law enforcement agencies, area fire departments, and EMS personnel for their coordinated response.
