The air quality in Delhi continued to stay in the ‘poor’ category on Thursday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 209 around 7 am, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Although still unhealthy, the reading marked a marginal improvement compared to 294 on Wednesday and 267 on Tuesday at the same time.
Local Variations Across the City
Pollution levels differed across monitoring stations. CPCB data showed Mundka at 275, Shadipur 236, Nehru Nagar 249, Rohini 238, Bawana 263, Jahangirpuri 246, Wazirpur 259, Ashok Vihar 229, Narela 240, Vivek Vihar 228, Pusa 257, Sirifort 277, and Chandni Chowk 167.
Relatively better readings were recorded in some locations, including Sri Aurobindo Marg (159), Lodhi Road (164), Major Dhyan Chand Stadium (186), Mandir Marg (166), IIT Delhi (158), Aya Nagar (168), and IGI Airport (165).
Weather Conditions in the Capital
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city’s temperature stood at 13.6°C around 7 am, while humidity was measured at 88%.
Smog Concerns Earlier in the Week
Just a day earlier, several parts of the capital reported visible smog, sparking concern among residents. CPCB figures from Wednesday showed significantly higher readings at some sites, including Anand Vihar (317), Bawana (333), Chandni Chowk (280), Dwarka Sector 8 (252), ITO (277), Narela (344), Punjabi Bagh (277), RK Puram (296), Wazirpur (339), and Rohini (335).
The India Gate–Kartavya Path area recorded 277, AIIMS 296, and Akshardham Temple 317, the last of which fell into the ‘very poor’ category.
With Delhi’s overall AQI still above 200, air quality remains a concern, particularly for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions.
