Delhi Records Cooler Morning At 21°C, Temperatures Likely To Rise

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi recorded a cooler-than-normal morning on Tuesday, with the minimum temperature at Safdarjung settling at 21°C, two degrees below the seasonal average, as the effects of the recent weather system continued to be felt across the national capital.

The Ridge recorded the lowest minimum among the key stations at 16.9°C, while Palam registered 19.7°C. The minimum temperature was 20.4°C at Lodhi Road and 20.6°C at Ayanagar, according to India Meteorological Department data.

The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies for Tuesday, with the maximum temperature expected to touch around 33°C. Temperatures are likely to rise further on Wednesday and Thursday, when the maximum is forecast at 34°C and the minimum around 24°C.

The recent dip in temperatures followed rainfall, cloud cover and winds associated with a low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh and a Western Disturbance affecting north India.

An IMD official said the weather systems had increased moisture and cloud cover over Delhi-NCR, limiting daytime heating. Wet surfaces and north-northeasterly winds also contributed to the cooler conditions.

The low-pressure area has since weakened, with clearer skies expected to allow temperatures to climb over the next couple of days. The IMD has issued no weather warning for Delhi-NCR for Tuesday or the following days.

Meanwhile, the capital’s air quality remained in the satisfactory category, with the Air Quality Index recorded at 64 around 11 a.m. Tuesday. It marks the fifth consecutive day of satisfactory air quality in Delhi.
