New Delhi: Delhi witnessed a warm and humid day on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature reaching 38.6 degrees Celsius, 3.1 degrees above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, touched 45.8 degrees Celsius during the evening.
The IMD forecast isolated to scattered rainfall over Delhi and adjoining NCR areas from July 14 to July 18, with more widespread rainfall expected on July 19 and 20.
The capital is likely to experience partly cloudy skies on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to remain around 37 degrees Celsius maximum and 27 degrees Celsius minimum.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra reported 12 deaths and 21 injuries in rain-related incidents between July 8 and 13, according to the State Disaster Management Authority.
Palghar, Mumbai and Pune received excess rainfall, while some districts faced deficits. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Maharashtra till July 16, with heavy showers likely in ghat areas.
In Uttar Pradesh, weather remained mostly dry with high humidity, while only isolated rainfall was recorded in Ghaziabad, Mathura-Vrindavan and parts of eastern UP.
Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal said the state government is fully prepared for monsoon challenges.
He reviewed preparations at Pong Dam, where the water level stood at 1,322 feet, and assured that measures were in place to protect lives, farmland and infrastructure.
