Delhi Travel Hit Again: Dense Fog Causes Cancellations, Diversions At IGI

Date:

Dense winter fog once again paralysed air travel in the national capital on Tuesday, triggering widespread flight cancellations, delays and diversions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport and compounding travel woes for passengers across the region.

By around 9.30 am, at least 118 flights had been cancelled, while more than 200 flights were running behind schedule, officials confirmed. Eighteen flights were diverted as low visibility made landing conditions unsafe.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility at IGI Airport dropped to 350 metres at 9.30 am IST on December 30, signalling dense fog conditions over Delhi. The weather disruption spilt over to rail services as well, affecting train operations for the second consecutive day.

AAI Issues Fog Advisory For North India Airports

Amid the worsening conditions, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) issued an advisory warning of potential delays at select airports across northern India due to reduced visibility.

In a post on X, the aviation body urged passengers to stay in close contact with airlines and plan for longer airport processing times.

“Due to prevailing fog conditions today, 30 December 2025, visibility levels across Northern India have reduced at select airports. This may impact flight operations, including possible delays. Passengers are advised to stay in close contact with their respective airlines through official communication channels for the latest flight updates. Travellers should also plan their journeys accordingly by allowing additional time for airport arrival and check-in procedures,” the AAI said.

The authority added that assistance teams have been deployed at affected airports to help stranded travellers.

IndiGo Flags Possible Disruptions

Airline major IndiGo had issued a travel advisory late Monday night, cautioning passengers about possible operational disruptions due to persistent fog across several northern and eastern airports.

In a post on X, the airline said, “Early-morning fog is expected to affect visibility across Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Kolkata, Ranchi, Guwahati and Hindon (Airport). During these hours, visibility can suddenly reduce, impacting flight operations. Our teams will remain fully prepared through the night, monitoring the weather minute by minute.”

Disruptions Continued From Monday

Fog-related chaos had already disrupted operations on Monday, when 128 flights were cancelled at IGI Airport, and over 200 flights were delayed before noon. IndiGo alone cancelled 80 flights across its network, officials said. Airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, had issued advisories urging passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.

With fog conditions expected to persist, airlines have once again advised travellers to monitor real-time updates and prepare for further delays across the region.
