‘Dhadak 2’ Struggles at Box Office on Day 1, Earns Rs 3.65 Crore

Date:

The highly anticipated romantic drama Dhadak 2, starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, made its theatrical release this Friday. However, the film’s Day 1 box office performance failed to meet expectations, earning just ₹3.65 crore across India, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

A successor to the 2018 hit Dhadak, which launched Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter and opened with ₹8.71 crore, Dhadak 2 appears to have struggled to recreate the same opening impact despite a fresh lead pair and critical curiosity surrounding its bold theme.

Directed by debutante Shazia Iqbal, the film is a remake of Mari Selvaraj’s acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal and seeks to explore love across caste and class lines.

The film’s opening was further challenged by stiff box office competition. Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2, which also released on the same day, drew away a significant portion of the audience, while Ahaan Panday’s Saiyaara, still going strong since its July 18 release, continued to hold screens and attention.
