Fact Checked: Old picture of volcano eruption shared as Taal Volcano in the Philippines

A picture of a volcano eruption is doing rounds on social media and it has been claimed that it is from the recent Taal Volcano eruption in the Philippines.

The caption in Filipino read: “sumiklab na nga ng sobra ang taal volcano…tumaas na din ang tubig.naulan pa ng putik ..wlang tigil ang lindol..nagtumbahan na lahat ng puno sa bigat ng alikabok at naputol pa ang tulay samin.😭😭😭lord jesus help and protect us please.amen”

(Translation: Taal Volcano has already broken up… the water has risen too. It rained on the mud.. the earthquake has no stop.. all the trees in the dust are all laid down and our bridge is cut off. 😭😭😭Lord Jesus help and protect us please. Amen)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that claim attached to the picture to be false.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search on TinEye, we came across the same picture on the website of UK based stock photography agency Alamy.

According to the website, the above picture is from Anak Krakatau volcano, Sunda Strait in Indonesia and the picture was taken in July 2009.

Hence, the above information proves that the viral picture is not of the Taal Volcano eruption in the Philippines.
