Five Honest confessions of hospital nurses

Date:

Doctors are the ones who take care of your disease, treat you and diagnose the problems in your body, however, nurses are the actual people responsible for your recovery. There are some confessions the nurses always wish their patients should know, but do not know how to bring them up, so here is a list of 5 of the most honest confessions of hospital nurses.

Do not confuse a hospital with a hotel

If you complain about a room, a service, food, size of rooms, and such other issues like a number of guests and attendants, remember, that you are in a hospital and not a hotel. Hospitals abide by certain rules and by now, nurses have got used to such complaints and do not take them seriously.

They can like some patients more and some less

Those patients who are nice and gentle with the nurses are liked more by them and extra care is taken of them in comparison to the rude and mean patients who always crib and find faults. Your recovery would actually be faster if you are a nice patient.

They try to ease a patient’s pain

When a patient is in extreme pain, the nurses take a call to increase the dosage or add some painkillers to give relief to the patients within limits. They also sometimes suggest the doctors to change or increase a particular medicine if they feel the need.

Indirect hints and clues

If your nurse feels that you need to consult another doctor, she may not be able to be direct about it, however, her hints should be easy to understand. She may subtly ask you to consult another doctor.

They like being thanked and acknowledged

Nurses have a very taxing and demanding job and need some acknowledgement from patients and their families to keep them motivated. A small thank you note or a small bar of chocolate to thank them and an encouraging feedback could make them happy.

You can consider nurses your friends

Since the nurses are in hospitals for almost 12 hours in a day, they have time to sit and chit chat with the patients as well. Patients can share their emotions or feelings with nurses and trust them in terms of confidentiality. They are usually good in keeping secrets.
