Foggy Morning In Delhi, AQI Remains Poor

Date:

Several parts of the national capital woke up to dense fog on Monday morning, while air quality levels stayed within the moderate to poor range, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that moderate fog was observed across multiple areas of Delhi during the morning hours. Locations such as Dhaula Kuan, Akshardham, Dwarka and Mother Teresa Crescent Marg were among those affected by fog.

Around 7 am, several air quality monitoring stations across Delhi reported AQI levels in the moderate to poor categories. In Dwarka, Sectors 3, 6 and 10 recorded an AQI of 243, placing them in the ‘poor’ category. Mahipalpur registered an AQI of 134, while Mother Teresa Crescent Marg remained in the ‘moderate’ range with an AQI reading of 118.

Neighbouring NCR regions also experienced mist early in the day, with air quality remaining poor in Ghaziabad. As per CPCB data, Ghaziabad recorded an AQI of 259 on Monday morning.

In contrast, Mumbai reported better air quality conditions at the start of the day. The CPCB recorded an AQI of 126 in the Marine Drive area, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category. The IMD forecast for the region predicted “fog/mist in the morning and mainly clear sky later.” Despite the foggy conditions, people were seen taking morning walks along Marine Drive.

Meanwhile, several airports across north and central India reported varying fog conditions on Monday. The IMD said very dense to shallow fog was observed between 0600 hrs and 0630 hrs IST.

On Sunday, air quality in Delhi had remained in the ‘very poor’ category during the morning hours, with the overall AQI at 318 around 8 am, according to CPCB data.

The IMD had issued a yellow alert for the national capital, cautioning that isolated areas could witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph. Similar weather conditions were expected across neighbouring Haryana and Chandigarh. In Haryana, Karnal reported a hailstorm early in the day.

The IMD said the rainfall marked the onset of a weather phase, with thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hail likely to impact several states. Light rain was also reported in several parts of Delhi and adjoining NCR areas during the early morning hours.
