Gadar 2: Sunny Deol Says ‘There Is Love On Both Sides, It Is The Political Games That Birth Hatred’

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, known for his iconic role as Tara Singh in the 2001 blockbuster “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” took a poignant stance on Indo-Pak relations during the trailer launch of his upcoming movie, “Gadar 2.” The veteran actor emphasized that the people of India and Pakistan share “equal love” and expressed that political maneuverings were responsible for the animosity between the two nations.

Addressing the audience and media at the film’s trailer launch event, Sunny Deol passionately articulated his belief in fostering harmony and understanding between the neighboring countries. The sequel, “Gadar 2,” features Deol reprising his role as Tara Singh, who journeys to Pakistan amidst a ‘Crush India movement’ to reunite with his son.

While the film’s trailer showcased the trademark jingoism associated with the “Gadar” franchise, Deol clarified that off-screen, the citizens of both India and Pakistan desire peace, not conflict.

“It is all about humanity. There shouldn’t be any fights. There is equal love on both sides. It is the political game that gives birth to hatred. You will see the same in this film as well. Janta nahi chahti ki hum ek dusre ke saath jhagde ya lade, aakhir hai toh sab isi mitti se,” said the actor, who also serves as a Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur.

“Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,” released in 2001, narrated the story of Tara Singh, a Sikh, who falls in love with Sakina, a Pakistani Muslim girl played by Ameesha Patel. The movie struck a chord with audiences and became one of the biggest hits of all time.

Expressing gratitude for the immense love the first film received, Sunny Deol expressed hope that the sequel, “Gadar 2,” releasing on August 11, would also be embraced with the same fervor by the audience.

“At first, there was apprehension about revisiting ‘Gadar,’ but when Sharma ji narrated the story… I hope people like this film. I am hopeful that the audience will love it, considering how excited everyone is. I hope it touches your hearts, fills you with josh (excitement) for your family, for your country, because there is no power bigger than love,” he added.

The release of “Gadar 2” will coincide with another highly anticipated movie, “OMG 2,” starring Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar. The box office face-off is expected to be an exciting clash reminiscent of the 2001 battle between “Gadar” and Aamir Khan’s “Lagaan,” both of which emerged as massive blockbusters.

With “Gadar 2” set to hit theaters in just a few weeks, fans eagerly await the return of Sunny Deol as Tara Singh, hoping that the movie’s message of love and peace will resonate with audiences across borders, just as it did nearly two decades ago.
