New Delhi: George and Amal Clooney have temporarily left their home near Brignoles after a wildfire reached the area. The couple chose to evacuate as a precaution while France continues to battle severe wildfires.
In a letter to the mayor, the couple shared their concern about the situation, saying, “At this point We have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”
They also expressed support for those affected by the fire and added, “Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we’ll be part of making it whole.”
Authorities later confirmed the letter was genuine. The mayor said the Clooneys were not under an official evacuation order but decided to leave voluntarily for safety.
The wildfire has burned around 130 hectares of land and forced more than 600 people to evacuate. Most residents were allowed to return home on Thursday. Around 270 firefighters, assisted by four water-bombing helicopters, continued efforts to control the blaze. Four firefighters were injured.
