Gill Fined For Slow Over Rate As Gujarat Titans Outclass Delhi Capitals In IPL 2025 Thriller

Date:

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been fined for a slow over rate during Match 35 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, played against the Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, according to a report from ESPNcricinfo.

Gill joins a growing list of IPL captains penalized this season for over-rate violations. Other names on the list include Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Riyan Parag and Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bengaluru), and Axar Patel (Delhi Capitals).

Despite the sanction, Gill’s Gujarat Titans delivered a dominant performance, steamrolling Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in a high-scoring encounter. The victory was powered by a blistering 97 not out from English opener Jos Buttler, who forged a century stand with Sherfane Rutherford (40) to successfully chase down a formidable 204-run target.

Delhi made early inroads after being sent in to bat, with KL Rahul and Abhishek Porel laying a solid foundation. Ashutosh Sharma’s late blitz helped DC post 203 for 8 — a competitive total on a lively Ahmedabad surface.

But the Titans were unfazed. Buttler’s calculated aggression, coupled with Rutherford’s steady knock and a finishing cameo from Rahul Tewatia (11*), sealed the deal with one over to spare. Tewatia capped off the chase with a towering six followed by a boundary, sending the home crowd into raptures.

Delhi’s bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Buttler dictating terms from the outset. Rutherford, brought in as an impact substitute, swung momentum firmly in GT’s favor during the middle overs.

The win marks Gujarat’s fifth in seven outings this season, propelling them to the top of the IPL 2025 standings. Delhi, now with two losses, slip to second place.

The Titans will look to build on this momentum, even as their captain faces disciplinary scrutiny for the over-rate lapse.
