Gill-led Indian Team Arrives in London For England Test Series

Date:

The Shubman Gill-led Indian cricket team has touched down in London, kicking off their campaign for a historic five-match Test series against England, which begins on June 20. The tour marks the start of India’s journey in the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the team’s arrival by sharing a video on social media, capturing the players’ upbeat mood. “Touchdown UK. Team India have arrived for the five-match Test series against England,” the BCCI captioned the clip, which featured Jasprit Bumrah, Gill, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna smiling and interacting with fans and team members.

The team’s energy was palpable, as they prepared to embark on one of the toughest overseas tours in modern cricket. New captain Shubman Gill, who recently took over the reins following the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, acknowledged the challenge of leading a young side in their absence.

The squad’s arrival in the UK sets the stage for a series steeped in significance. India have not won a Test series on English soil since 2007, and this campaign presents a chance to rewrite history under a fresh leadership duo — Gill as captain and Rishabh Pant as vice-captain.

With a mix of experience and youth, and match-winners like Bumrah — whose participation will be managed carefully — India will be looking to make a strong statement early in the new WTC cycle. The tour is not only a test of skill but also a signal of a new era, with the team entering uncharted waters without two of its most iconic cricketers.

India’s Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
